碧云天生产的Recombinant Human Transferrin，即重组人转铁蛋白，由中国仓鼠卵巢细胞(Chinese hamster ovary cell, CHO)表达，经化学成分确定的培养基发酵、纯化制备，细胞培养级别，所有原料均不含动物源性物质(Animal origin-free, AOF)，铁含量大于1000µg/g，纯度≥95%，具有高度的批次一致性，无支原体，各种传染病指标为阴性。
Transferrin是无血清或低血清细胞培养系统中大多数细胞系必须的一种添加剂。
Transferrin，也被称为Serotransferrin、Siderophilin或beta-1 metal-binding globulin，简称为TF、Tnf或TRF，中文名为转铁蛋白、铁传递蛋白、铁转运蛋白或运铁蛋白。转铁蛋白是铁离子的重要载体，根据铁离子的饱和程度分为三类，分别为缺铁转铁蛋白(Apo Transferrin)、部分饱和转铁蛋白(Sidero Transferrin)和饱和转铁蛋白(Holo Transferrin)。每克缺铁转铁蛋白的铁含量小于50µg，每克部分饱和转铁蛋白的铁含量是300-600µg，每克饱和转铁蛋白的铁含量是1200-1700µg。在生理情况下，通常有1/3转铁蛋白分子被铁饱和。
转铁蛋白是血液中主要的铁结合糖蛋白和细胞间的铁传递分子，参与铁从吸收或储存部位向不同组织细胞的转运过程，特别是将铁转运至红细胞和外周组织中[1]。在细胞外液pH7.4的条件下，转铁蛋白可逆地结合一个或两个三价铁离子，然后与转铁蛋白受体TFR/CD71结合，而在该pH条件下，TFR无法识别缺铁转铁蛋白。随后整个复合物通过TFR的内吞途径进入细胞内，随着细胞中pH的降低，铁会从转铁蛋白中释放出来，然后复合物通过胞吐作用释放到细胞表面，转铁蛋白与受体分离。在此过程中，转铁蛋白中的铁含量受到调节，可以使饱和度接近100%，从而产生饱和转铁蛋白，或释放铁使铁含量几乎接近零，从而产生缺铁转铁蛋白。
无血清或低血清细胞培养系统需要一种铁的传递形式，而转铁蛋白是铁的优选传递形式。人转铁蛋白是一种高亲和性的转铁蛋白，可用于多种细胞系的培养而被直接添加到贫铁或无铁的细胞培养基中。转铁蛋白在细胞培养基中的次要作用是结合内生性铁离子，防止由自由铁离子引起的细胞毒性及氧自由基和过氧化氢毒性。人转铁蛋白已被用作多种培养基的添加剂，例如分化培养基、角质形成细胞培养基、血液内皮细胞培养基、胚状体培养基、胚细胞集落形成细胞培养基等。
